Big Daddy: Food Porn

Daddy porn is quite famous nowadays and I seriously don't know why. My research has yet to take me down that path. And though I have been craving for that certain kind of meat since time immemorial, I am yet to take a bite. Today, the spotlight is on a different meat: burger patty.

Located somewhere in Lahug, Big Daddy is a school bus turned food truck serving American inspired dishes. I know what you're thinking: "American inspired? Quesadilla? Fish and Squid balls? Really? Well apparently, food trucks suffer from identity crisis too. Give the guy a break.

Me and a friend, who, from now on will be named Jackyboy, decided to end the day stress eating at the said place. I ordered Double Cheese Burger Combo (fries+soda) and Fish and Squidballs while Jackyboy ordered Bacon Mushroom Burger with extra Cheese sauce, American Cheddar Cheese and good ol' bacon. Yes, Jackyboy was that hungry, so much, that a Beef and Cheese Quesadilla was added to the order. Now imagine what our stress level is.

The service is fast, surprisingly, given the elaborate order Jackyboy had. Just after a few minutes, our orders where delivered.

The Place

As a typical food truck, one would be very, very stupid to expect a cozy four-walled restaurant with foamed couches to make you feel better as you gain weight.

When I first saw the place, it was just gravel and ordinary plastic tables and chairs. The renovation is such a welcome site. Now, people can relax as they eat the stress away.

Big Daddy Truck is just beside Chikaan, another Cebu-based restaurant. Base on my extensive research, the two are owned by the same family/company.

The Food

Nothing I haven't tasted before. The servings are generous and really worth the money. I felt like a 7 year old boy opening his Christmas present when I opened my foil-wrapped burger. I came back to my 23 year old cynic-self after the first few bites.

The burger patty tasted like real meat. The veggies are just enough to add a little color and attitude to the burger. The fries are normal, so are the fish and squid balls, even the quesadillas. What's good though is that their condiments are not individually packed, so can literally bathe your food in mustard and they couldn't care less.

Verdict

Overall, I can say that the place and the food is good. If you're after a good unhealthy dinner with unhealthy friends, Big Daddy Truck is highly recommended. If you're planning a date but then you realized that you're single, Big Daddy is very much recommended.
