Locke and Key: Get to the Fucking Point

Let me start by saying that this new series from Netflix is so dragging, it puts RuPaul's Drag Race to shame. But before I explain why, let me drag you too with long-winded sentences and paragraphs that lead nowhere. I just have to get even.

Locke & Key initially sounds like a buddy cop movie or TV series. But in actuality, it is a 'supernatural horror-drama' based on a comic book series of the same name, Locke & Key. Netflix describes it as 'mind-bending, witty (this one makes me laugh)'. Yeah sure.

It is a story of a family who decided to live on their patriarch's ancestral home after his murder. Grief-stricken, they have to navigate their way not only in a new house but a new city. It turns out, the house is littered with keys with certain powers. It is also home to a past everyone is running from, including the murdered father. But he cannot run anymore, because he is dead. So his family is doing the run for him. Nice.

Now that we have discussed the background of this mind-bending and witty new show from Netflix. Let's go now begin to dissect the things I love and I hate about this new show from Netflix that is both mind-bending and witty.

What I Like

The premise has a lot of promise (I love this sentence). Although it couldn't get any more passe than keys unlocking supernatural powers, it could have been better.

The cast was also great and freaking hot. I would totally let Tyler Locke me in bed all day. I will let Lucas have it and so much more. Kinsey, while a very unfortunate name and very annoying in some parts, was I guess well written and effective. Bode, another unfortunate name, is adorable. The friends were forgettable. Ellie is one dimensional. The mother Nina, gosh, I wish we could save her (or at least the writers responsible for her), but aside from looking all confused, she did nothing. So I guess, saying the cast was great was such a stretch. But at least I was spot on with how hot Tyler and Lucas were.

The house was also nice.

What I Don't Like

IT.WAS.DRAGGING.THEY.TAKE.TOO.LONG.TO.GET.TO.A.FUCKING.POINT

Every episode is filled with endless drama that no one asked for. How are we supposed to know that Tyler is not himself? Where are the references that Kinsey wasn't always like that? And do we really have to know? I get that they were grieving, but for fuck's sake, just cry! You have keys to find around the house.

Oh Lucas! Where do you want to insert that key?

Did I mention that it's too dragging? Imagine finding out the real story in Episode 9, how would you feel? I swear you can watch the last two episodes and you haven't missed anything of worth. That's how much filler drama this series had. It makes me so sad and disappointed because a good story was ruined just for the possibility that people could relate to their problems. The writers probably thought 'oh let's give them real-life problems so that our character might seem more human', no! I don't have superpowers but I was so invested in saving the world together with the entire cast of Avengers. And that is the difference between good and bad writing. I actually don't know about good and bad writing but I feel so strongly about this so I think it counts.

And that poor attempt to have a second season. Ugh, disgusting.

I don't want to spoil anything because I want everyone reading this to waste their time like I did. But that ending just shows how the characters were poorly written. Imagine thinking that you've defeated a possible demon that easy. After 10 episodes of being tormented by the antagonist, who wasn't even that menacing at all, they really thought that it's going to be that fucking easy.

Oh my gosh! What is she thinking? I'm scared.

Speaking of the antagonist, what her/his purpose? What's the motivation? What is the plan? Why? It's just one of the plotholes this mind-bending and witty new series from Netflix has to offer.

I am really mad because I wasted half of my day only to left with that ending. I am not even interested in what happens next. It's very rare that I invest time in a series, much more finish the first episode. If the first few minutes of the first episode was not enough to get my attention, I usually don't watch. It only shows how much potential this series had. If only the writers were good. Maybe they should hire me next time because I am such a pro.

And that, my dear readers, is how I really feel about the new mind-bending and witty series from Netflix titled Locked and Key which is based on a comic book series with the same name, Locke and Key.

Thank you for reading. I hope you wasted your time too!

Cheers!
