How To Enjoy the Rainy Weather

Being a tropical country, the Philippines is only destined to feel two season: wet and dry. Dry obviously pertains to Summer, which we all look forward to. I think most of us Pinoys prefer Summer over the Rainy season. Most plans and vacation are scheduled during the whole of summer. Beaches and hotels are fully booked as well. Social calendars are full and so are the malls. It seems that we enjoy Summer so much that everyone gets so gloomy whenever the first drop of rain arrives, can it get anymore cliched?

In reality, the rainy season last longer than summer. The latter start from April to May, while the former starts from June until the end of the year. That being said, I think it's very important to find ways on how to enjoy the rainy weather, since it occurs more often. Traveling is not really recommended because of safety reasons, as well as the hassle rain brings. Most of us stays at home, for obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy the weather. In fact, we should take it as an opportunity to bond with friends and especially your family. Classes are suspended here and there, and floods prevent people from going to work, with this unfortunate events, we should use the time to make up for those we've lost. So without further adieu, here are some ways on how to enjoy the rainy weather.

  • Watch Movies/Movie Marathon - I think this is the most basic thing to do to enjoy the rainy weather. With all the good movie releases, I think you can find a good movie or two to watch with the whole family. If you want it to be relevant and educational, you could also watch documentaries. If you want your kids to enjoy then watch an animated movie from Pixar, Disney or Dreamworks. If you're with friends, a movie or two is not enough. It's like you spend the whole day watching movies. It's not a problem though, as long as you have plenty of movies to watch.
  • Play Boardgames - If you're into Scrabble or Snakes and ladders, this is the time to play that game. To make it more fun, try to have funny punishment to those who will lose. For example, you can have a bowl of punishment and if someone loses, they have to draw out their punishment. It could be simply ones like 'Jump Ten Times' or to hard ones like 'Wash the Dishes Tonight'. Yes, this could be an excuse to make your child, or someone in the house do chores, without them thinking it's a work. Just don't let yourself lose though.

  • Read a book - If you're spending the day alone. You could try and read a book. It's time to use your imagination again, plus it will improve your vocabulary. It's also a good stress reliever and if you're really in to eat, might as well drink a cup of coffee of tea while reading.
  • Clean your room -  You could take this opportunity too to clean your room. One of the reason's why I find it hard to clean my room is because of the hot and humid weather. Well, now you have no excuse since it's cold and all. I know that the weather is inviting and bed is teasing, but if your room is already a dumpsite, might as well clean it up. Then, your sleep or nap will be more deserved.
  • Organize your closet - If your closet is like mine, a war zone. Better make use of this time to organize and clean your closet. Fold those shirt and hang those jeans. Place things in their proper order, maybe then your life will be a less messy too! haha
  • Cook - It's another way to bond with the family. Try to incorporate everyone with the cooking. Assign someone to chop, to stir, to grind and all. This will be fun, especially for your kids. To cap it all, make a nice table setting or eat while watching a movie. Nothing is better after a hard work than a plate of good food and your family to cuddle with.

Well, that's about it. This are just somethings you can do to enjoy this rainy weather. You could try and find things to on your own as well. I think the rainy weather is perfect to get in touch with the family, or with yourself. Life is stressful, yes, so try to utilize this time to relieve yourself of the stress that life gives. Ease your mind and let your body relax. I don't think its bad to spoil yourself once in a while.

To me, rainy weather is best enjoyed with a cup of hot coffee, in my case I doubt that it would be just a cup. Anyway, enjoy the rain guys. Don't forget to smile and have a nice rainy day!

The River of Life

I just donated blood! I have always wanted to do this, for a very long time in fact. I'm not afraid of anything, it's just that I was not sober enough whenever our school conducts its annual blood letting. Good thing I was in my best shape this morning, and when I saw that they are doing the program, I decided to give blood without hesitation.
Sorry, I should have rotated this.
Contrary to what others assume, it doesn't hurt. Well, there is pain but a tolerable one, it's like a bug bite. It's funny cause most people think it does and it makes them and others avoid blood donation. There was this girl who was in the bed next to me during the donation process, and she was covering her face while the nurse inserts the needle, while the guy to my left was shaking throughout the process. I can't blame them though, we have different pain tolerance.

Anyway, blood donation is really good for you and for the community. Its like a two way street all leading for goodness. It is not unknown that blood donating help others who are in need. It really help those who immediately needs blood transfusion but can't afford it. By donating, charities and blood bank in your local area will have ample supply of blood. Plus, whenever you or one of your family needs blood, just present the ID (the blue one) you got from any donation event you made and you get free blood.
Yup, that's me during the donating. I took
the picture personally haha strong me.

Another benefit of blood donation is it rids your body of toxic and waste. Excess Iron is also removed which can cause cancer. Your body also produces new blood which can help you lose weight and make you feel fresh and healthy. Plus you get free food and drink after you donate. Nothing is even better than a good meal after helping others. So if ever there's a blood donating activity in your school, office or anywhere, do not hesitate to join. Just think of all the benefits of blood donation for you and for others. You never know, you might be someone's hero because of the blood you donated. Don't think of it as painful, think of it as a sacrifice for the greater good, as the cliche goes, its only love when you learn how to sacrifice.

The real reason why I really wanted to donate blood is that you can also ask for your blood type. I asked for mine and after many years of wondering, I can be at peace. My blood type is A.

How was your day? I hope you smiled today, carry that smile in your sleep! Have a good day folks!

Pinoy Problems: The Pinoy Pride

We Filipinos are very fond of our kababayan's who was able to make it in the international scene. May it be through sports like Mannny Pacquiao, entertainment with Charice and Jessica Sanchez, fashion with Rajo Laurel and Maxi Sinco and many other fields. We like to refer to them as Pinoy Pride.

This term being widely used in various, if not all on forms of social media has been raped and murdered by various people that somehow, it gives a negative impression to what should have been a thing to be proud of. Take for example the recent season of American Idol in which one of the finalist was half Pinoy. I like her too, don't get me wrong but all of her videos are flooded with comments like " Go Jessica! We support you here in the Philippines! Pinoy Pride!" to the very possessive ones like "Go Jessica, Pinoy yan! Ang galing talaga ng Pinoy kahit saan!". I know that is was one prideful moment for us Pinoy's that one of our own was able to make internationally, I don't think rubbing it off to everyone's faces would do anyone any good. What makes it worse is that if someone criticizes any "Pinoy Pride" it will automatically be racism, which is absurd since everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. We have been untiringly using Pinoy Pride everywhere so why can't they?  It pains me to see such proud moment turn into racial debacle when it could have been avoided in the first place if we would only control ourselves and our Pinoy Pride.

But the bigger question is, are we recognizing the right "Pinoy Pride"?

I once saw this article about Cynthia Alexander leaving the country for good. If you don't know Cynthia Alexander, she's a singer-song writer as well as a bassist and instrumentalist. She has been in the Philippine  music scene ever since I was a kid and was considered as one of the best artist there is. Imagine our own talent, whose artistry graced the very soil of the Philippines, leaving for lack of support from people who is so obsessed with international stellar. Shame, really. Cynthia is only one of those artist who tries so hard to woe her own countrymen, and in return we ignore them for we prefer bright lights and dollar sign.
Where's your Pinoy Pride now?

You're just a seat away from me
and my peripheral vision gives me a wonderful
view of you
I have always been this shy
I have always been this awkward
I have always been this resistant to things
I know I will never have
and you are just another physical manifestation
of how unfair life is, at least to me
You are just another muse
of my unknown poems of
unspoken feelings
Words without mass
Words that will never have
a single space in your whole
anatomical being
Therefore, words that will never matter
This universe will never give a damn
whether my feelings are expressed or not
For I am just another dust
in this wide spectacle of radiant lights
Funny how we breath the same air and yet,
we can never be together

Opportunity Came Knocking

I'm beyond ecstatic!

Since my Mom arrived from Saudi Arabia, I never had the chance to check my mail and since she took my Smart Bro kit, I still haven't checked my mail until now. And God! What a wonderful surprise came knocking at my doorstep.

An email dated July 12 was sent to me by this company which will remain nameless. To cut the story short, they have invited me and my blog be one of their Brand Ambassador. Yep, it sounds so formal and big and I'm very happy!

I really don't know what to say and still in shock. Good things have been happening since I started this blog and for that I am very thankful. More good things are coming, that I promise since the company wants me to host giveaways.

Once again, thank you very much for this opportunity, I so hope however that it's still open. I will reveal the company's name soon. Anyway, I really need to have a stable internet connection from now on. I still have a class so good day folks!

For The First Time

Slowly, I've been realizing how lucky I am with what I already have. For the first time, I've felt the joy of having your family beside you. Yes, I'm tired and my patience is already on it's limit, but you know what? I don't care. I don't care if it's tiring running around and chasing my brothers, I don't care if it's tiring trying to stop them from doing something publicly embarrassing, I don't care if it's tiring trying to get them to stay put in one place. Yes, my patience has never been this tested, but thank God I was able to hold it in for a very, very long time. I guess that's just it, if it's about your family, you wouldn't really care. If it's about your family, bother is a word you will forget. If it's about family, you become selfless.

We just got home from SM Bacoor and I'm really tired to the bones! But hell, it was one happy day. My brothers seemed happy with our little bonding at Tom's World. We did a little grocery and ate so much. It was fun, really fun. In fact, I missed two quizzes today and my prelims is next week already. I don't really care, as much as possible I want to maximize my time with Mom and my brothers. Even if it means sacrificing a little of me. Isn't that the rule of love? It's only love if your learn to sacrifice something about yourself.

I guess what they say is true, wisdom really comes with age. For now, I am slowly realizing what's more important. As of now, family is what's important. Have a good night folks! Let's all sleep with a smile!

Goodbye Pidol!

The Philippines King of Comedy Dolphy, passed away just tonight, at age 83.

If the circulating news are true, this is a very sad moment not only in the world of the show business, but for the whole country as well. We lost one important pillar of the Philippine Cinema. I may not know him personally nor grew up in his heyday, I still feel sad.

For years, Dolphy has been battling with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease or COPD. A disease that strains a persons ability to breath, that a mere pneumonia can lead to death. Just last month, Dolphy was rushed into the hospital due to his recurring pneumonia which is a great danger for him since he was still suffering from COPD, an incurable disease. In the end, the Philippine's King of Comedy was defeated by the said complications.

He's the perfect epitome of rags to riches, a commoner to being a famous. A person whose existence was a proof that talent, and not good looks can take you farther. He made us laugh with his comedy, in fact his antics was enough to make us burst out laughing.

But to me, he is most memorable in his portrayal of Markova, a comfort gay during the Japanese occupation. I may not know John and Marsha, but I grew up watching Home Along the Riles. He is not just a comedian. He's an artist whose mastery of his chosen craft spanned six decades and 13 presidents. A feat for anyone in the entertainment industry whose tide changes every so often, but Dolphy, through his humor and kindness among fellow artist, survived. He will always be the King of Comedy.

Truly, his passing is a great loss for the entertainment industry. So Mr. Rodolfo Vera Quizon Sr. or Dolphy, Pidol, John Puruntong and many other names and characters you gave life to, thank you for all the laughs and smile. You will be remembered.

Date a Guy Who Writes

Date a guy who writes. Date guy whose sharpest weapon is his pen, and nothing else. Find someone who will write you poems everyday. Someone who will search the whole dictionary just to find words perfect for you. He may not be a man of deeds, or the smoothest talker, but he will surely melt your heart with his mastery of words.

He may not be able to bring you flowers everyday, but his writings will delight you as much, much more even. Finds someone who writes, for he believes in modesty: one need not to shout how much they love someone. He is gentle, subtle in his way of affection.

Date a guy who writes for his words are mirrors of his heart. He does not use words for its mere purpose of completing a sentence. For him, every word of everything he writes is a piece of himself. He values honesty, for it is the foundation of his love. He may not be well groomed. He may not be tough. He may be unsure, awkward, clumsy even. But a guy who writes will love you in the most honest way possible.

Date a guy who writes, for they love romance, hence, will do anything to make theirs last a lifetime.

A Hate Poem

I would have written something sweet to start this
but I know you will just scroll past this
you won't even notice
you will just scroll down
and won't give a damn

So why would I bother create
A poem so lovely any girl would palpitate
If you, the reason why I'm like this
wouldn't even care how lovely my poem is

(This line would have been the best
Words will be the loveliest and the sweetest)

But the biggest irony of them all
Is while I tire myself and waiting for you to fall
You cry yourself to sleep
Because someone you love wounded you so deep
And you feel like your whole world is crumbling down
For the love of your life is now in love with another one

You blame all the guys from what happened
and promised never to fall in love so sudden
for you have been hurt so may times
and that sucks to bad, cause I never had the chance
A chance to prove that I love you so much
A chance to show that I can be enough

Now tell me, why would I even bother
Why should I hold another pen and paper
When my words are never enough
To tell you I love you so much

Lost In My Own Thoughts

I just realized something. If television and the internet we're illegal like some drugs, doesn't it make us addicts?

One way of another, we are all addicted to something and if the things we mostly enjoy right now we're illegal, I bet we would all be salivating by just the thought of it. I really don't know where my thought are taking me with this, but bear with me please?

You see the only difference between cocaine and internet connection is that one is legal and one is not. We pay for both just to be able to enjoy it. It's quite expensive. More importantly, we value it more when we are lonely, we use it to escape from something. No, I'm not petitioning that illegal drugs should be, err legal. All I'm saying is that we are all addicted to something ( did I just wrote it again, sorry )

I'm just lost in my own thoughts, but I hope you get the point. Anyway the movie I just watched was probably the reason I'm like this. It's Requiem for a Dream. It's an interesting and very disturbing movie. You should really watch it, maybe then you'll understand this gibberish post. Good night everyone!

MY FIRST BLOG AWARD!

Never did I expect that I would receive an award for a past time. I mean, it was just a hobby of mine to conceitedly talk about myself as well as my emotional instability, plus some opinion about random things and voila!

Anyway, upon receiving this award, I have to do the following:

  1. Thank the blogger who gave the award. As well as link his/her blog.
  2. Post seven random things about yourself.
  3. Give this award to 15 bloggers who you love and let them now you gave them the award.
Thank you!

I wanna thank Lawrence of Colors and Grays for giving me this award. He is one of the few bloggers who visits my blog often and one of the few who comments on some of my post. Thank you very much for this. It has been a wild ride for me ever since I started Metered Words. I never really  expected that my poems and stories and tantrums will be appreciated, lest my blog be visited much. Nevertheless I created the blog and surprised that people actually visit me. So thank you all, especially Lawrence for visiting me and for this award. Thank you and keep on visiting my blog!
